Management members of OGT have undergone the NQF level 7 and 5 – Labour Intensive Construction Methods training in terms of the Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP) for Construction Managers on labour intensive construction projects. OGT intends to afford further training in NQF Level 4 (Foreman / Supervisor) and NQF Level 2 (Team leader / Supervisor) to other personnel within the company to develop them further in Labor Intensive Construction Projects. Dedicated efforts will be endeavoured to channel all benefits attained with respect to the Extended Public Works Programme, directly into projects in which the Contractor is involved.

OGT places great emphasis on social development, training and safety, to ensure project success. Various accredited training in which the Company partakes includes Safety Training, First Aid, Technical Training and Management Training.

The Company prides itself on its attitude that training must be provided in every form and size, to every individual who does not have the skills to advance themselves, either within or outside of the Company.

This can further be seen in compulsory Toolbox Talks which are held every week on every site, where the whole labour force is given tools, advice and support in general life skills, from AIDS awareness to pollution. In addition, development of individuals does not cease when training is done and the project is completed, but extends itself through to the possibility of Full time employment with OGT and this in itself, opens more doors to further training and education. For example, on several Projects, some C.L.Os and local labours have been offered permanent positions with OGT on various staffing categories once these Projects are completed. The various positions that are usually filled up by these community identified candidates include Safety Reps and Officer, Site Clerks, Stores Assistance as well as drivers and operators. The company then sends the candidates to Training Courses, so that they can be compliant when working on various sites. We continue to pay attention to recruiting individuals who have all the potential but do not have the resources to develop themselves. We see this as one of our main contribution towards uplifting those communities that are disadvantaged.
